My name’s Owen Collier-Ridge, and I’m writing about the origin of the Spectrum Destroyer deck in Marvel Snap. Spectrum Destroyer is a strong metagame force on ladder.

I’m writing this because many people have reached out to me about the strength and prevalence of this deck. I think making a deck that shapes the metagame is a big accomplishment, and I want to document the history of how the deck came to be.

This is going to be pretty technical, so if you’re not familiar with Marvel Snap you may not grok this post on the whole. I definitely recommend playing Marvel Snap, it’s a great game.

OG Ongoing Deck

This was the original ongoing list that I started with in pool 3. This deck contains no pool 3 cards and I was keeping up with the top meta decks with it: Destroy Synergy and Mr Negative.

This deck can fight on many angles:

This deck also benefits from locations that are difficult to play into. Death’s Domain, Sanctum Sanctorum, Luke’s Bar, Negative Zone, Danger Room. Mr Fantastic, Colossus, and Nightcrawler can win those lanes by themselves.

A Note on Initiative

Initiative is the resource that determines who flips their cards first each turn. Who has initiative is determined by who is currently winning the game.

Cosmo, Armor, and Professor X both benefit greatly from having initiative. Mr Fantastic and Nightcrawler are very good at giving you initiative.

Playing for this resource early in the game can be very important if your gameplan relies on Armor or Cosmo landing against your opponent’s destroy/on-reveal cards.
